Same, Same but Different

This week we continued on our journey into understanding others and their beliefs. On Monday, the students paired up with a friend and compared their similarities and differences to see that even though they have many differences that they can still be close friends. We also looked into the meanings of the words respect, tolerance, and acceptance as it is important to understand these concepts when discussing what others believe.

The students shared what they knew about the topic of religion, and then worked with a partner or in groups of three to search for images about one of the following 6 religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Shintoism. Next, they then created collages with the images and then shared them with their classmates. The students moved around the room to examine each collage and to leave a question or comment about what they saw in the images.

Lately the highlight of each day has been opening the Advent Calendar to see what “treat” the PTA has left for us! We’ve had several fun Christmas related activities, but I think the most memorable one was Pin the Nose of Rudolf!
