Skating, Scavenging and Santa!

The last week before the winter holidays is always bustling with seasonal activities and this year it was even more exciting as Grades 3 to 6 went on their first field trip since the Corona Virus Pandemic began almost 2 years ago!

The third graders were such risk-takers on the ice as for many it was only their first or second time on skates! The feedback from the students was that they wished they could have done it a bit longer and some have even asked to go again! So if you're looking for something to do over the holidays I would suggest taking them skating again. We had the small rink reserved for DSKI but the main ice rink was also quite empty as it was a weekday morning, so if you would like to try to avoid crowds, then weekday mornings seem like a good time to go. I'm sure that I'll be taking my kids there sometime over the holidays as well!

The students weren't as enthusiastic about the visit to the science museum when we talked about it, but as you can see in the photos, they did have fun checking out all of the different displays.

In between field trips and Friday's festive festivities, we focused on finding out facts and creating posters to teach others about the different religions. When we return in January we will go over and clarify their 'facts' as some were not quite...accurate...

As we've done for the past few weeks, each morning one student had a chance to open one of the envelopes on our advent calendar. This week, one of the highlights was the 'HO! HO! HO!' game. Students had to convey an emotion by only saying, "Ho! Ho! Ho!"

Finally, the highlight of our week was the Christmas scavenger hunt and visit from Santa himself on Friday!

My gift to the students over the holidays was - no homework (except for those that still haven't completed things on Seesaw, and some reading in English) I asked them all to have a lot of fun and to relax over the holidays so that they are ready to come back to school and study hard again from January 11th.

Merry Christmas to all the families, and I look forward to seeing everyone in the new year!
